I wasn't able to officially make NAB, so some of you are probably already aware of this, but I was just checking out Sony's site, and came across the above announcement. They're saying they should have a 64 bit version of Vegas that'll be out by the end of this year. Of course we all know most companies fail at meeting their deadlines, but I'm still excited nonetheless to see this happening.

That's been one of my draws to Mac/FCP (though I've yet to make the switch) was the 64 bit platform, NLE, etc. ... it can simply handle & do so much. Now with Vegas going that route with Windows Vista (Ultimate version?), it should be 100% on par with regards to speed, power, etc.

"AMD64 is the artist's computing platform, Vista Ultimate is the artist's operating system and Sony Vegas software is the most intuitive and artist-friendly NLE software available," said Charlie Boswell, director of Digital Media and Entertainment for AMD.

What makes Vista Ultimate the "artist's operating system"? The only thing it has over the "Pro" version is Media Center, and I have no use for that. So, when I upgrade to Vista, it isn't going to be to Ultimate.

I agree on that, in that I have no use for Media Center ... the only real thing I think that was good for (if I recall from the XP version) was watching TV through it.

Where can you get Vista 64-bit without purchasing Vista Ultimate? ? Sorry I didn't know you could.

I thought the rest were 32-bit.

Id like to see a preview or a few screenshots of what it will look like.

Would be nice to have it..but after windows works out all the bugs out of Vista..and has more software compatible for it..then i might consider upgrading..

I concur about the bugs being worked out, but by the time 64 bit Vegas comes out, Windows Vista will have been out for well over 6-9 months, so hopefully most of the platform bugs are taken care of. Then, I personally don't care about other programs being out, simply because the 64 bit version SHOULD be backwards compatible with all the 32 bit applications. My only concern at that point would be the potential bugs in the 64 bit version of Vegas.
