60p to 30p in FCE and 60p in general with FCE

I have a T2i and have been shooting skiing (shocking given the username I know). Anyhow, I have FCE which does not have a 720p 60fps timeline. I was wondering what the program was doing when I dropped that type of clip in? Also, if I slowed a clip in FCE to 50% (or to 40% if going to 24fps) in a 30fps timeline does it use all the frames I shot?

Thanks

I would really like to know the answer as well. Everything I look up mentions Final Cut Pro, but doesn't address the FCE question. I'm very new to this, and while I understand the concept behind shooting over and undercranked, I don't know how to properly handle it yet in Final Cut Express.

I have not used FCE in a long time, but the main reason I switched to FCP is that it lack a lot of functions of FCP. The question is what is going to be your output? 30 or 60?

I would be outputting in 30p. I don't like the look of 1080/60i or 1080/60p. Looks too much like reality for narrative in my opinion.

I found out how to do it in After-effects. I am now wondering if just adjusting the speed in FCE actually does the same thing, basically just playing back the 60p file at 30p, thereby slowing down motion by 50%.

And I guess the most interesting question, is could you use 24p, and speed it up to 30p to increase the intensity of a fight scene.

I'm mostly outputting to 30p as 90% of this (for now) is going to youtube and vimeo. Most of what we're doing now is just for monthly webisodes during the winter.

you can just edit in the same timeline and turn everything into 30p on export. All it will do is just dump some frames from 60p.
