60i to slow mo 24p

Hey guys. Been trying for days to convert my 60i footage to 24p by slowing it down to 40% like barry's book said. The problem is, i think the 60i footage is being interpreted by the program and running it at 24 so when i slow it down, it just slows down the 24 frames.

How to fix this?

What editing program are you using? I use DvfilmMaker software to change 60i to 24p (23.9) and then use it on a PPro 24p timeline. I have no idea how this will tranfer to film if it ever comes to that.

I could be COMPLETELY wrong about this, but I think Barry said 60i slowed down to 40% produces smooth slow motion--not that it converts it to 24p.

The "p" in 24p stands for progressive...just adjusting the clip speed will not convert interlaced material to progressive. For that you need software like DVFilmmaker or Magic Bullet.

What you're doing makes sense in theory - you've got 60 images per second, and you're slowing that down to 40% of its original speed, which should leave you with 60*0.4=24 images per second.

Make sure frame blending is off for the clips in question, and check up in the top of the project window to see what Premiere is interpreting them as (it'll say 29.97 or 23.96 or whatever).

You *are* going for slow motion, right? Not just a same-time-length 24p conversion (which is what dvxwheeler's suggestion of using Maker does)?

but there must be a way to do it in premier pro 1.5. Im just importing my 60i footage into a 24p timeline, but it somehow changes the 60i. So when i slow it down by 40% it looks the same as if i slowed my 24p down by 40%.

PAPA, I did it once in aftereffects and when I brought it back in, I made sure that flicker removal was checked in the speed options - helps with the interlace.

i dont have after effects though. Please, still waiting for a response as to how to do this in pp1.5

Okay, try this.
Open up a new project with 60i settings. Import your 60i footage and slow it down to 50% (not 40%. You'll see why later.) Now export the footage using 60i settings.
Open up your 24p project and import your new 50% 60i clip. Right click the clip in your Project window and click Interpret Footage. Change the framerate to 23.976.
That final step should make it play at 40% of its original speed. You may also want to right click the clip in your timeline and check flicker removal (and deinterlacing and whatever else), like soarprod said.

Slowing it down to 50% or lower deinterlaces the clip, because your only showing 1 feild at a time or less.
