Yea there's a few static shots there where you can definitely tell it's sharper then the MKII I think...but I still hold to the fact that I want to see some original files before I make a formal opinion. Seems sharper to me, but we'll see. Thanks for the link!

Still seems kind of soft to me....sorry. Not to say I don't like the image but....from the 1080p view on YouTube it didn't pop out at me like other 1080p videos. I'll also wait for an uncompressed image before declaring final judgement though.

They all look well resolved to me. Maybe it's not resolving 1080 lines but it has more detail than the MKII especially at high ISOs. I'm not trying to dis anyone but I do wonder if half the people complaining about the MKIII have ever shot any films with the MKII. If not quite 1000 lines of resolution is its only major flaw then I'll quite happily make films with it.

I predict it will be the guerilla weapon of choice for the next couple of years along with the new rebels if they have the same tech.

It's not the holy grail (RAW) but so far it looks like the next best thing until the C-DSLR materialises with an out of reach for most price tag.

Just watched the Mario and Nette video. Great short. Probably the best DSLR related promotional short I've seen IMO.

The fact that there's less aliasing and moire is amazing. But yeah only disadvantage is that it only resolves around true 720p.

I wont be upgrading to a 5DIII for many other reasons but it's worth borrowing off someone...

@Bassman2003: Bit irrelevant but from that D800 video I'm impressed by the stills photographer and all that. Videographer also has nice color grading skills... but from all the footage of the D800 I've seen it's got more technical problems than the 5DIII not least of which is the aliasing.

I think this D800 video shows more promise. http://vimeo.com/38009435

Thanks for posting that. I realize that this thread is about the 5d Mark III vid....but I appreciate this one too.

I have to say that it doesn't look *worse* than the 5d Mark III stuff....so when you consider that you're going to get 4:2:2 from it also....and it's $500 cheaper....it looks like an interesting option.

The 5DMIII low light stuff looks exciting, but no 4:2:2 seems like a downer....we'll see. Thanks for sharing guys! Cheers!

update:
Lammy pointed out aliasing in D800 vid....true. (Hair part bugged me)

Oh yes...one other note. Neither of them looks like "photo quality" video like the Hacked GH2. I don't own one, so no "fan boy"-ism here. But DANG, that hacked stuff (especially screen captures) are looking CRAZY! This raises the bar/expectations for other DSLRs. (...for me anyway)

Interesting.... I think this DP may use a lot of schmutz on the lens, particularly the first shots, as there are many shots afterwards, in the city, that look respectably sharp. Or maybe they had it set up wrong at the start?

With these cameras being full frame, focus is always a question mark especially with the ultra thin DOF that so many of these videos are shot with. It is tough to really judge how sharp all of the footage is.

I look forward to some produced videos after people are used to the gear from both of these cameras to really make some judgements.

That's a good point. That said....it's a part of the equation. Im not sure FF is for me.

I think that it's a good improvement over the 5DMII- Also this should be watched from at least 7 feet away from the average 24" monitor to compensate from the compression applied. We also need to wait for COF to come from the 5DMII to fully know where it stands. That said, I like what I'm seeing so far. Beyond resolution, the DR, HL handling and noiseless image are a few that seem to be really good.

what I look forward the most with the 5D3 is to try an extremely-high-DR picture style (a new version of my Flaat_4 profile) - given how clean it is at high ISO, and with the improved all-I codec (here's hoping...), I think I can get in video mode all the DR of the stills mode; if it's anything better than the 5D2, that should be close to 13 stops at ISO 100-400 (the biggest issue with this is that spreading all that DR across only 8 bits may create banding; Stu Maschwitz's trick of gentle denoise and gentle noise added may be needed for this) - so, if anybody gets his hands on a 5D3, please contact me! I just need a quick set of RAW stills shot with the 5D3 to get this going!!

Since aliasing is reduced and that is one of the things in the mkII that makes the image pop I guess someone looking for it will feel let down.

Papa is right and I've said it before. BACK OFF THE MONITOR! Stop pressing noses to your screen looking for atoms! You're going to get hairy palms sitting that close. I back up 5-8 feet every time I watch a "1080p" flick on Vimeo or youtube. Once you get in the habit of that, you'll see all sorts of nice cameras. BACK UP!
