5d Mark II and Sound Devices 702

Hey, just bought the Sound Devices 702 and 302 for recording/mixing with the 5d. I have been primarily using the H4n with the 5d Mark II and its been great apart from having to re-sync the audio and dealing with the lag.

I was wondering if anyone has used the 702 with the 5d before and had any lag/ retime issues in post? On the Zoom i have got better results from using 44.1kHz rather than 48....however what is the best option on the 702 to use with the 30p on the 5d.

Thanks,

I think you may be talking about a known bug in Final Cut Pro and .0 timelines. If your using FCP and the 5DMkII you NEED to use a special quick set up or your imported sound will drift. If you do a search there is info on this list.

standard seems to be 30ND/48K in the field.
I know its not cut and dry what people are doing in post to get it to a workable point
but in the field, 30ND/48K for sound.

The problem isn't with the field end but the FCP sequence settings and how FCP treats external audio. FWIW The Mrk II records 44.1/16 internally.

The Mrk. II drift problem isn't a TC issue it's a FCP pulldown issue and other than using a special quick setup there isn't a solid workaround. You can't use the standard compensating SR because FCP "corrects" that on the fly BEFORE it pulls down the audio. You can't turn this "feature" off and it doesn't make any difference what sample rate your original audio is at. The two solutions are to use a special quick setup designed for the Mrk II or wrap your external audio in a QuickTime wrapper so FCP things it's 24 frame film footage. The latter doesn't seem to always work but the former is solid.

Oh I gotcha that its not a cut and dry thing that you post guys are doing.
Is this the case for all DSLR's?

The original poster seemed like his last question was asking if he should go 44.1 or 48
when recording to his 702.

I did know the 5d was 44.1 but it seems that we (field guys) are asked for 30nd/48.
