I've shot and edited 5D footage for some time and have never noticed the following issue:
Footage is soft after transcoding to DVCPROHD 1080p24 in Compressor 3.5
- footage shot on 5D mark ii, no magic lantern (1920x1080 24p)
- copied from CF to RAID
- transcoded in Compressor 3.5 to DVCPROHD 24p (1280x1080 non-square pixels)
- transcoded in Compressor 3.5 to ProRes 24p (1920x1080 square pixels)
- opened in Quicktime
- screen grabs using snapz pro
As you can see from the images below, the DVCPROHD version is soft and slightly pixellated (look at tree on upper left corner). Also, both the ProRes and DVCPROHD transcode are 'zoomed in' slightly. Thirdly, the ProRes has a gamma shift (image is slightly darker).
I'm not so worried about the gamma shift, but really perplexed by the zoom and disturbed by the softness of the DVCPROHD conversion.
Any ideas?
Thanks - jason
