50mm lens advice

Charli

cool little "title"
I've been reading post on lens, here and there, learned a few things. If you
were going to buy a 50mm lens for your dvx, which brand would it be? So far
I've gathered that Leica is far out of my reach. Nikon appears to be ahead of the
game alongside with Canon.

Am I close, am I off? Auto focus or manual, that I haven't figured out. I think it should
be f/1.2 or f/1.4, yes? No?

Thanks for whoever takes the time to answer this. Back to reading reviews.

You're talking about a 50mm lens for the 35mm adapter....right? Nikon and Canon are both good and 1.2 is great but may not be worth the high price tag so 1.4 is quite adequate. Needs to be manual focus.

Thanks, gf. I'm in line for the Cinemek, but I have a feeling I just need to go
somewhere else to buy the adapter. I'm not handy like yourself, and since I
can't afford the designer label of mini35, I guess I'll just have to do with what I
can find.

Currently I'm working on purchasing filters and lens for the dvx. That should put me
back a few.

They're not interchangeable. Are you talking about lenses for your 35 adapter?

Yes, to the adapter not the dvx. I really did not get a lot of sleep last few days.
Memorial Day weekend killed me at the hotel.

Marlene - I think the Nikon f/1.2 is within my price range. I may be able to get it
locally. I just want to make sure I have the crispest, very good quality, lens and
filters. I am about finished purchasing the audio. Contemplating on a boom pole.

You will find it very difficult to keep things in focus at 1.2 unless you are on a tripod and the subject isn't moving. You would be much better off with a 50mm 1.4 and putting the leftover money on another lens.

The only advantage of the 1.2 over the 1.4 is that it will let more light in, and with most adapters there can be significant light loss.

Thanks you two. I am pretty sure I know just where to get this. I feel like I'm
putting together a puzzle and pieces are starting to fit, though I do have gaps
here and there.

Charli everyone on this board has a gap somewhere.

As far as 50mm lense pricing Im certain you could get the Nikon 1.4 cheaper than the canon. From what I have seen talking to some pros they prefer the canon lense BUT to get a very high quality Canon FD lense gets expensive, which means less people are probably using it. Dont buy a lense without fully inspecting it first. Shine a light up through the camera connecting side. Look for tiny specs in the lense with an eyeglass. Also look for any smokey looking areas.

Thanks for the advice. I had thought about buying on Ebay, just won't buy
anything unless it's mint.
