503HDV head fell in the sand. What to do?

I was using my tripod with a Manfrotto 503HDV head the other day for a shoot on a beach and someone accidentally knocked it over. It feel sideways into the sand. It didn't get covered, but one side got a good dusting. How do I clean this out? Is this a serious problem? Can send get into the crevices where I head?
 
i would try using compressed air, then oiling it down liberally, keep it warm (80deg F or 35 C) and use compressed air to blow out all the oil and sand, then gently see if there is any resistance or 'grinding' feeling. it shouldnt be too damaging. compressed air cleaning alone should save it.
 
Dito, although if you have the feeling it doesn't run smoothly after cleaning yourself, rather have it cleaned at a service center. If there is sand inside and you keep using it the gears will get damaged and at some point it won't operate smoothly anymore.
