501 or 503 Fluid Head?

Hey all

I have a budget of $500.00 tops for a tripod set. Now I know with my budget I wont be able to get a real fluid head or at least I think I wont. I'm looking to get a Manfrotto but can't decide between the 501 or 503 head. As I understand neither of the two are real fluid heads so my question is should I just go with the 501 seeing as they are both not real fluid heads or is it still a big difference from the 503? To clarify, I will be using this tripod with my HVX and hope to eventually have a full 35mm adapter rig on it. If anyone could help me understand the difference between these two heads it would be much appreciated. Also, I have no idea which legs I should be getting, whether it be a set of Manfrotto lets or something else. Any suggestion on other tripods for $500 are welcome. Thanks for any help.

You can get by with a 501. The 503 can handle a heavier camera, allows counterbalance and has a back lit bubble. Your camera isn't too heavy, counterbalance is nice sometimes but not always and the bubble is a luxury.
