Editing a TV show and having a pro tools editor deliver me the 5.1 mix for the show.
1) What audio format should he deliver to me for me to lay down on the timeline?
2) What do I need to do to lay down the show with the 5.1 mix onto HDCAM SR ?

Depends who's doing the final laydown to HDCAM but typically they give you 6 mono channels that equal a 5.1 mix. Then you put that together with say a 1920x1080 ProRes HQ clip and you should be all set.

Lets assume I'm doing the lay down. Do I receive 6 mono channels from the Pro Tools editor to put in A1,A2,A3,A4,A5,A6? How do I tell the HDCAM deck which channels need to go where (L,R,c etc)?

Again it really depends on who is doing the layback from QuickTime to the HDCAM deck- they will help you with this. Unless say you happen to have an AJA Kona and an HDCAM deck sitting on your desk. But in general yes you have a six track FCP project that gets played out to tape.

Sorry, I must have given off a message that suggested that I was working on this from home. This will be done in a production house with a Kona card and HDCAM SR deck. I'll have tech support if I need them but would like to do this myself so I know for next time.

Then you have the answers- 6 mono channels. Play out to deck as 6 monos and your HD video to the HDCAM SR deck. It's more a question of proper cable routing than anything complicated.
