5.1 audio editing software/hardware?

Hello, all and thanks ahead of time for your help. I am currently editing on avid xpress pro hd and would like to edit the sound for a current project in 5.1 surround i have a Creative Audigy 2 Z5 platinum pro. What 5.1 editable audio aoftware should I purchase that also lets me preview the video at the same time that would be compatible with my current hardware? :shocked: :shocked:

I think adobe audition will support that, it's relatively inexpensive as well...

Actually I would look at Sony Acid 5 software - it is designed mainly for music but does 5.1 with video preview attached - $299 retail.

If you have more money, look at Steinberg's Nuendo.

what you are wanting to do is a pain in the ass, especially if you are wanting to edit to picture. The thing to do is just edit your audio, and do a final mix in surround. I use pro tools for this.

thanks for the reply dave. Tha's exactly what i want to do can you control each speaker independently through protools?

If you get the latest version of protools it will let you play a quicktime file at the same time to view your video while you work. ProTools will let you independently control as many inputs and outputs as you have wired to the system (I don't remember what the limit is.) There is a board that I use sometimes that has 24 inputs, and you could put the audio back out to the 24 speerate channels as well. So a 5.1 mix would not be a problem in protools.
