4x4 filters and storage of them

I have a few 4x4 filters and are wondering if its safe to store them in their little pouches without any thing wrapped around them. Will that scratch the filters or should I use the shammy pad that came with some?

It may be over kill but I wrap mine in microfiber cloth and the put them in a LEE filter holder. The cloth doesn't scratch and is useful for cleaning as well. The folder has ten individual sleeves so you can store multiple filters.
