4x dvd burner trying to use 8x

I am having trouble burning 8x speed on a 4x burner. I am using a Sony dw u14a burner. Are there upgrades to allow burning and if so where. Or should I just return and get 4x.

You're having "trouble" burning 8x on a 4x burner, and this surprises you?

There may be firmware available to update the burner (check Sony's website), but most likely, stick with 4x discs.

I use 8x discs with my 4x recorder no problem. Of course the discs are certified with the player. go to sony's site and see if you can find a list of compatible brand names (and speeds) that will work with your burner. Pioneer's site has that info listed.
