4K on 1080p monitors...

…I know I probably should be asking the manifacturers themselves, but I just want to hear in here if anyone can answer this question:

- Would a monitor like the TVLogic 058W still be usable once the cameras start spitting out 4K?
- Will it simply just scale down the footage, or would it need more than SDi and hdmi to accept the signal?

I'm comtemplating upgrading my monitor situation and have fallen in love with the 058W but I wont spend on it, if I'm going to need another upgrade once 4K becomes standard.

Thanks...

A monitor that takes HD in will ONLY accept HD in; it doesn't have hardware to scale from 4k. To use HD monitors on 4k cams -- at least for now -- we're going to need the 4k camera to output an HD signal; I would guess that most of them will do this, but it's a case of checking what the camera can output for monitoring.

The question posed in this thread is precisely why AJA offers the 4K2HD Mini Converter. This converter allows you to take in a 4K signal and produce an HD output that may be sent to your existing HD monitors. You can learn more about the converter here:

If you have any questions about this product, please feel free to contact AJA directly.

I hope this information is helpful,
