4K landed on mobile phones

Cool! Now all we need is a 128GB class 40 microSDcard and a 12 GB/s compressor chip that runs on less than 100mA.

Don't get your hopes up. This won't happen until 4k is much more prevalent in consumer technology. Technically the iPhone 4S Omnivision camera chip is capable of 4k at 24fps. No phone currently or in the near future will have the processing or decoding power to handle 4k. It's still a long ways off.

4k on a phone is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of.
What about 8K?

Hahaha yes now we'll have extremely high quality garbage phone videos. We've got some good technology to play with right now, be happy with it. A phone capable of 4k would set itself on fire.

I'd be happy if I could get sharp-ish 720p with good motion (controlled rolling shutter, controlled motion blur)
my current HTC says it can shoot 1080p, but I don't care about resolution until they solve those much more serious issues

anyway, you can't argue too much with "fits in my pocket and goes with me everywhere"
last year I shot this with my HTC Desire, it was all I had at hand when I stumbled into this surprising venue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NN778IKZ6I
