4K footage in Fcpx 1080p project loses detail compared to Resolve

My Gh4 4K footage in a 1080p Final Cut Pro X project (timeline)
becomes soft and not as detailed as the same footage placed in
a Davinci Resolve 1080p project and rendered to 1080p.
Side by side the Resolve file is not as soft and retains more of the original
4K image qualities than the Fcpx 1080p file.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

My test are done on a 5k iMac .

When FCPX ingests your 4K footage does it remain as 4K footage ? ( in other words it's not being ingested as 1080 footage ? )

Check the playback as the default setting may be 'Better Performance' in which it drops the resolution during playback. 'Better Quality' plays at full-resolution.

I have literally edited and exported over 1000 videos (many short ones) from over 20 different cameras from FCP X and they are always very high quality (in comparison to the source material...meaning I only lose what I lose based on compression, and not because of using FCP X).

The playback is set for better quality.
Also when you add a 4K file from the browser to the timeline it becomes a little soft
and the softness is present when it's saved to 1080p from the master output selection.
