480i vs 480p for youtube

Someone is filming an event for me and usually shoots in 480i. The final product is going on youtube.

Should I insist he shoots in 480p, or will the difference be minimal on youtube?

Sorry for the lame question.

If the destination is primarily Youtube, then progressive is a no-brainer. You should never shoot interlaced unless the destination is television, and even then, it comes down to the look you want, etc.

Never use interlacing if you don't have to is what I usually go by.

Interlaced video is a relic of old broadcasting days to save bandwith on Analog signals. Today, with Digital, progressive scan will help you save bandwith due to the nature of encoding video signals.

You should always shoot for your intended medium, or else you will spend lots of time converting the files over, and get less than optimal results because of it.
