OMMFG!!!!!!!!!!

What a BLAST!!!!!

Why haven't I been doing these my whole life?!?!?!?

Screening is tomorrow night and I can't wait.

I went in thinking I was just going to be moving heavy stuff, (I did for part of the day) got talking with the editor and asked if it was inappropriate for me to ask if I vcould sit in and watch the editing. (always looking to learn)
Alll of a sudden he's asking my opinion on an edit. I gave him my thoughts. He agreed. a few minutes later he does it again. We repeated the process and now I'm listed as the assistant editor.
Back at the studio I got to do some Foley work and help the sound design guy. He's cool and owns the studio. (He wants to help me on Horrorfest)
Wound up doing pick up shots to smooth a couple of scenes. It's great to own a DVX. Got my shots in the final edit now.....and a thank you from the director as well as kuddos from the editor and the producer.
Then, today, I get a call to be the "b" camera op on a two camera shoot in July!
I ROCK!!!!!!
I'm kidding. I'm just really excited about the weekend and how much fun I had and all the stuff I learned, the people I met and all.
I'm still so tired I don't think I can think. Home, Ultra Violet, sleep. (damn, doesn't come out til tomorrow)
So home and sleep.

Umm, I don't want to burst your bubble...

So I won't! Congratulations! :)

Enjoy it man. Sounds like you got high on film. If you want to keep your buzz, don't expect Ultraviolet to be anything but terrible. Same with Aeonflux.

Congrats on the 48hr film. I can't wait to get into one of these.

Alex

yeah, i heard

yeah, i heard

I'm totally prepared for Ultra Violet to suck, so I don't think I could be dissapointed. But thanks for the heads up.
I am completely stoked over the contest. Sleep well Thursday and as much of Friday as you can 'cause you'll need it when the clock starts.

That's great!

I think the timed contests are a blast. If it all goes well, it ends up being a big crazy filmmaking party. If it doesn't friendships can end and blood can be shed, but hey, no risk - no reward. :)

Chris

p.s. You should try the 24 hour ones.

yikes!

yikes!

I don't know how you could have done what we did in 24 hours. I mean, maybe if you have a crew able to work like a swiss watch, maybe.
You'd have to be editing form the second they started getting shots and scoring along side it.
Have you done one of these? What was it like?
Ours felt like a "real" production. I think it was the director and the producers though, they acted professionally.

48 hour festivals are the best! so much to do in such a short amount of time... but the motivation and inspiration coming from the festival can't be beat. I wish you all luck in future fests!

I have done two of the 24 hour festivals.

You need to have a great team, work fast, and skip sleeping.

Here is a link to the last one we did: "The Riverbank"

nicely done

nicely done

Chris,
Way to go!
What did you shoot with? DVX?
Liked the lighting.
Nice twist in the story.
How did you do?
I think these films prove there isn't really an arguement for outrageous budgets and lengthy shooting schedules. Look what can be done in a day, for free.

Yeah we did one too and plan to do the next one coming up. Its hard and fast work but fun. Its a great way to see where the kinks are in your processes too.

Future,

What group are you in? I did the Austin 48 hour film contest too. I'm in Group B and my team name is Metropolis Films. I'm going there tonight to watch my film and also tomorrow.

Future User,

We shot with the HVX, which helped with the capture since there was no logging to deal with.

The lighting was done by our DP. He did a phenomenal job considering the time constraints. That interrogation scene is actually shot in my living room. :)

As Aram mentioned, these contests are also an opportunity to work out kinks. Ours came at the end. Our export to mini-dv (a contest requirement) wouldn't work, and we were not eligible to enter the official contest. :(

Still, we had an awesome time and made some new friends.

Chris

Justin,
I think I'm alive. Still wiped out. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the b screening. We're in group a. Big Plume. Let me know what you think.
Chris,
Too bad about the contest.

I didn't get to see your film Future. I only saw group B's both nights. I hope yours went well. I think mine went well, I had a lot of people come up to me afterwards.
