Just a quick question. I ran up on a great deal on a reburbed 416T. The owner stated that he damaged it by running phantom power to it. Just wondering if anyone knows what sort of damage phantom power would do to a T powered mic. by the way the owner sent it to Sennheisser and they repaired it and sent it back...he said the repair only cost $36?? Wondering if this is a gem or a flop.

Could burn out some components in the internal preamp due to overvoltage and/or reverse polarity. If Senn repaired it and gave it a clean bill of health (and you have a t-power source or adapter to use it with) go for it, but I'd get the seller to agree that it's returnable if you find it defective. Hopefully Senn sent it back with documentation of the repair - I'd ask to see it if you can. You might even be able to send the serial number to Sennheiser and get a complete history of the mic.

Don't pay more than $150 bucks for that. One hr of labor at Sennheiser/Neumann in USa (they are based in Conneticut, on the east coast) cost $50. So I don't get how the bill was $36, but this is the thing, even if some componnent are destroyed. Pay $150 for the mic, send to sennheiser for service and you have a good chance of getting it fix , serviced and with make up for another $400. Now you have a perfect working MKH416 for $550. That's a good deal.
I still will follow Steve advice and claim the right to return, in case Senn called you at tell you there is nothing to do.
Anyway, the $36 bill is a hard fact to believe.

never heard that the ph power ever damaged 416T , and i have terminated that way accidentally not ones without any damage , most likely the mic lost connection inside the xlr plug what happens ( i had one like that ).
by the way what kind of plug does it have tuchel or xlr , if it tuchel 250 for 25 year mic , if it xlr - not more then 350 if the mic is in complete working condition
