4073A mic

Nope... I've tried to use one for interiors many times and it's never been any good for that.

It's just not one of the few shotguns that can SOMETIMES pass for interiors... even my 416 didn't do many interiors... just some of 'em.

The 4073a hears every reflection that gets on axis with the mic... I mean EVERY reflection.

That's why it 'aint good for interiors.

Well...I guess I should specify that I intend to use it to record interviews for a documentary. The mic will be situated above the talent on a stand in a shockmount. I don't wish to use it in an acting situation. Still a problem for this use????

anyone have any suggestions on which mic is good for both interiors and exteriors?

does the 4073a suck for interiors? or is it just not as good as exterior performance? i mean will it be decent in both interior and exterior or is it horrible in interiors? how bad are we talking?
thanks.

i've been trying to get some sound advice (get it? "sound" advice? hahah!) on a good shotgun for interiors. usually people end up saying use a lav. but then every audio article always says lavs are the bottom rung.

Hypers for interiors... shotguns for exteriors.

The only guns that can sometimes do interiors are $1K and up.

For cheap hyper the Oktava mk012 from sound-room.com at $165 (enter coupon code "DV") is good... it sounds way better then the price would suggest.

Then I'm sure some guys like the AT4053a... but it didn't really catch my ear. $400 at B&H.

Next I'd say is the AKG 480b with ck63 cap... I really like this one. $600-$700. Check prices at rvacanada.com before buying this one ANYWHERE else though.

After that it's probably all the way up to Schoeps cmc641... aka MK41... and that's around $1400.

The only hyper above that I don't have experience with is the AT4053a... and although I've used the Schoeps I haven't owned one... but I have two Oktavas and the AKG.

The nice thing about the AKG is if you buy into the ULS system you can get an excellent mic of each class based off the 480b PS. I've got pretty much the entire line... and I've been really satisfied with the performance of each configuration.

Matt... I don't know if you are a baseball fan at all, but in the words of the great Yogi Berra:

"It's like de ja vu all over again!"

thanks mattin

on other thing, I live in a tropical country. are any brands known for suitability in hot humid places? i've heard the senn 416 is robust in build and climate resistence.

the 416 indeed is one of the best choices for humidity problems , better then most of the mikes i know , stay away from Neumann 81 because the same reason , don't know how is the 4073 working in the same conditions ,
the sanken is also doesnt have any problems with high humidity.

Yeah... I think it's like trying to stop the rain... people don't believe anything until you say their name... followed by the identical advice.

No matter how big of an umbrella you put up the drops keep coming.

Matt , this is a video forum for people who usually can see but have problems to hear , so when you shout it kind effectless until you write their name so they have trigger to proses the visual data :-)
