4 years since Sept. 11th

Runner Up.
As I was posting in the Google Earth thread, Terry reminded me that today is the day.

Do any of you remember what happened September 11th four years ago?

It was my senior year in high school and I was late for class as usual. My mom calls me right before I head out of the house and she's crying on the phone. I asked her what the matter was and she said a plane flew into the WTC. My dad happened to be on an airplane at the time, and was most likely flying over NYC at that moment. My mom couldn't get in touch with him because we all know the cell phone network went to hell that day. My dad made it safely to Atlanta, GA. but he couldn't get home to Austin because they grounded all the planes. Both my mom and dad were coming home from my grandfather's funeral on Sept. 11th. My mom was in her plane but didn't take off yet because of the situation in NYC. So my uncle drives halfway across the country to pick up my dad and then heads up to Rochester, NY to pick up my mom. Talk about scary times. I was very thankful that day.

Do we remember what happened? Why would you think we wouldn't?

I remember being in Friday evening rush hour traffic at 11:30 AM on a Tuesday.

I just remembered that I have a 20 hour flight today, and getting through security is going to be barrels of fun.

We were dropping my son off at daycare; he was almost 1 and a half....

My wife comes out of the daycare persons house as I wait in the car and she says "They're attacking the World Trade Center"

I'm like "What?"

She say's "They're bombing the World Trade Center."

"Who."

"I don't know."

Then wen't to work where nothing got done at all. I remember for a good part of the morning the internet was literally bogged down; sites like CNN, FOX, MSNBC, BBC just could not be pulled up due to massive traffic.

I was getting ready to go to class (freshman year), in the commons of the school they had a TV out there playing the news. I was horrified at what was going on. That day in my first class we didn't do any work, we has sat and watched and talked about what was going on. And I remember seeing the second plane it the tower. I was scared.

I was working at a real estate company, my mother called and told me that a plane hit the world trade center. I figured it was a biplane or something and went back to working. She called back and then the entire office crowed into my office because I was the only one with a radio.

Here in Charlotte they evacuated the uptown area, but my company wouldn't let us leave.

I remember the people on the news describing the tower coming down... 4 Years and it seems like yesterday or a hundred years ago and everything in between.

I was preparing for a shoot. We were doing an A&E biography that week. I was at my computer when the first plane hit. It probably flew over me but I wasn't thinking about hearing a plane. That day America's Most Wanted called and needed me to get down to ground zero to produce some pieces for the program. I was up for three days strait shooting and editing, but got it all done. So the work I lost that week was at least made up. I just wish I had a mask that first day I was at ground zero. Day tow I had 40 masks and ended up handing them out to cops, etc who asked.

Yeah that's bizarre that they WOULD NOT LET YOU.

My company wasn't a matter if people were goign home or not but simply just NOTHING was getting done. Everyone was more or less shell-shocked all day.

I slept in a little late after having flown back from Kansas City the night before. I went to my 'room', turned on the television and watched confused reporters try and make sense of what happened. While watching the first tower burn and listening to speculation, I saw the second tower get struck live on television. I also remember the horrific scenes of people jumping out of windows to their deaths in order to avoid the fire.

Every class that day in school let us watch the news, seeing as it was an historic event.

That is, every class but HISTORY!

It was also my birthday.

Needless to say...

WORST.BIRTHDAY.EVER

Every time I think back to that day, I get a sick feeling in my stomach.

On a side note, I am 21 today. :)

I figured I would just mention it here as opposed to creating a thread about it.

No one would reply anyways.

Time to drink away the sadness and gamble a away a Summer's worth of paychecks.

I was in a media ethics class and my teacher was talking about how war benefits a nation economically and that our country needed a good war to boost the economy. I than walked outside and someone told me about the first tower, I was lucky enough to find a TV on campus to see the second one hit. I remember people here in Richmond getting scared that they were going to attack the federal reserve here. Than they thought Norfolk was going to get hit.
Happy birthday

No. Today I asked my girlfriend what day it was, and she answered, "The eleventh". She added, "And you know what that means? Our phone bill is due tomorrow."

I was abroad during S-11, and was stuck in Hong Kong.
