4 pin xlr cable question

I am finishing a loomed cable harness for my crane and have included most everything, but am considering adding a 4 pin XLR cable for DC power.

Question: Does the 4 pin plug carry a shield which connects to one of the pins or are only two pins used?

I am sure one of you old hand gurus will know this.

If it's for power, I have seen 2 pins each for the pos and neg. I have seen it only one pin each also, with the other two just "floating". The 4 pin is so it doesn't get confused with a standard XLR (audio).

DC power usually does not need shielding. AC, on the otherhand......

Unless you are working with substandard equipment at a mega-transmitter site, power cable generally needs no shielding.

As others have already observed, 4-pin XLR power connectors use only two pins:
Pin 1 is ground (-)
Pin 4 is power (+12V DC)
pins 2 and 3 are left floating, not connected to anything.

Thanks guys. I have whole rolls of some very nice 2 conductor 18ga tinned control wire left over from my boat repair business. I think I'll buy some connectors.
