4 lavs at the same time

OK I have been playing around this afternoon with two Sennheiser wireless lavs into my beachtek. Works fine.

So what if I have 4 actors on lavs at the same time? I have a shot of four actors at a distance walking along the street towrds the camera talking together.

How do I go about it with only two inputs on the beachtek?

What extra kit will I need, or is there a way of having four lavs into two xlr ports on the beachtek?

You will need 4 channel mixer and soundman
if it tight shot with normal headroom and the street noise and traffic aloud , you can boom it as well ,but then you need soundman and booman
if you one man gang you can hook automatic mixer ( shure , lectrosnics ) and mix at least 3 to one channel and the 4th to second
of course you can bring xl-1/2 and run each wireless independently to each channel but then you are 12 bit 32khz resolution

Looks like I will need a Sound Devices 744 then!

I needed an excuse to by one. Looks like I have found it!

No. you need a Sound Devices 442. The 744 is a 4 channel recorder with only two mic pres.

look for used Deva 2 , might be much better solution for you as it has 4 channel mixer build in - the 744 cant work stand allone with more then 2 mikes , you will need additional mixer

Anyone have any suggestions on where to find a used Deva 2? I've seen that recommendation many times, and have never seen one used - not at Coffey or Trew or Location...the only "used" places I would trust for such an expensive purchase. Thanks!
