So yeah, the subject line is basically my situation. I have 4 gigs of ram in my computer...and for whatever reason (<--that's where you come in!), After Effects, upon loading, only shows 2.0 gigs being used. Any idea why??

as supported by microsoft, you can only use the 3GB switch in XP PRO +as far as i know, but people claim to be running it on XP home just fine. i havent tried personally yet cause im in the middle of a huge project and cant affrod to paperweight my computer right now.

either way youll never be able to use all 4 gigs because the O.S. will always commandeer some of it to run the machine. 3 GB useage is a nice 50% boost if you get it to work though, just be careful and make a dual boot so you can always boot normally if the 3GB crashes.

CS3 yes. vegas i dont know. i would assume so but i dont pay attebtion to it since i dont use it. BTW if you buy vist a now you get windows 7 free when its out. ;)

I sometimes feel Vista was made soley to piss me off. Everytime my mate wants me to fix his Vista run computer a little piece of me dies.

imho, most issues are with vista 64 bit because people dont realise that thier hardware or software didnt have drivers for or wasnt supported on 64 bit yet, and they try to run alot of unsupported stuff. ..32 bit vista is imho the best windows o.s. ive used to date, and 64 bit is solid and even better as well if your sure your software is supported and theres drivers for your all your hardware. ....anyway windows 7 is coming out soon and you get a free upgrade to it from higher vista versions now, so you can WAIT TILL YOUR STUFF IS SUPPORTED ON 7 and then install it over your vista purchase, but i cant stress enough the gains in editing and processing perfomance you stand to gain by going 64 bit when your using 64 bit apps and multicore machines with alot of RAM on a dedicated machine. the Cs3/4 adobe suite video apps are fully supported on vista 64, and is much faster on it than 32 bit.

AAAAAAANYWAY. lets not get into the whole ..this o.s. sucks and this one is better debate. the bottom line is if youve got a solidly archetechted 64 bit PC then vista 64 bit is your best os to be running on for the adobe Cs3/4 suite right now. weather you have any issues or not is all after that fact. ..i get enough issues on my 32 bit xp boot becuase it cant process as fast or handle memory like 64 bit vista can. so really even though the 64 bit vista horse will undoubtedly have some issues for you at some point its definitely a much faster horse to be on, and they ALL have issues at some point or another.

heres what adobe says:
