4.51c verdict for P2 users?

would like to hear from some p2 users on the latest update of edius, been reading the edius forums and people either love it or are having problems with it, not speciffically p2 problems but issues of stability. I have used edius since getting my HVX and love the workflow, I am still using version 3.64 cause i am a fan of if it ain't broke don't fix it. was looking forward to 4.5 but now have my reservations as I don't have a lot of downtime (knock wood) between projects. i just got the adobe CS3 package and am wondering if I should investigate using premiere as my main NLE. opinions please
Thanks

As far as p2 functionality, it's great as always. In contrast to previous 4.xx builds its pretty dang solid. All previous bugs that I had had so far have been fixed.

My only problem is some kind of compatibility issue which is causing a loss in realtime (in some circumstances) with my system that I did not have issue with before. This does not seem to be a widespread issue, so it appears to be a problem with EDIUS and something to do with my system.

It's not *terrible*, but it is frustrating to me. I became spoiled by previous 4.xx builds realtime performance, and have now taken enough of a hit that it annoys me.

I can still do a lot in realtime, but some seemingly small tasks can now choke down my system where they never did before. Titlemotion Pro being the most glaring example.

Now, I don't know how much directdraw and direct3d do or don't use the video card, but (if they use it very much) that could be my issue as my laptop card is not supported within EDIUS and I haven't been able to find *working* driver updates for it as it is a GeForce *GO* and Nvidia doesn't make drivers for it.

But, aside from that its pretty dang great. Very bitter sweet for me b/c of my issue, but again not something that seems to be widespread. And, truth be told... I can probably still do more in realtime with EDIUS than I could on a comparable system with most other NLE's...

It's still the best NLE out there when it comes to working with P2 footage, and there have been some very valuable improvements in the workflow from even early versions of 4.xx up to the current build.

You could always give the trial version a shot and see what you think. My individual system just has me looking to either a new system or other options at the moment out of mild frustration and a seeming lack of solution, but those options aren't viable right now, so I will continue happily editing in EDIUS (for the most part), just with a bit of a chink in my armor and with some waiting time while I render a few parts of my project... grrr :)

Again, though don't take my experience concerning realtime to be the rule... it *appears* to be only an exception.

Download the trial version.

I've been using Broadcast since just after NAB '06 when the free upgrade to Edius 4 was announced (I also have CS3 Production Premium w/RayLight, and Avid Express Pro). My primary workstation is a Dell workstation 490 with two (3 GB) Pentium 4 processors and 4 GB ram.

I have upgraded each time an improvement has been available and not experienced any crash, freeze, or other issues that immediately come to mind. I just installed 4.51c last night which appears to be solid although I'll need more time in the saddle in order to make a dependable report.

The one thing that would have made me a little happier would have been a Blu-ray present in Procoder express.

I'm certain I am overlooking something obvious (but) before installing the 4.51c upgrade I used to be able to write a completed sequence back to P2.

Now I am not able to locate that option.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Just go to print to file... and choose hd p2 clip, or p2 clip from the list of exporter options...

I just checked and saw it was still there... Only shows up if you have a p2 card inserted... (or, I would assume, if you have the camera hooked up to the computer with a p2 card in camera).

It'll show up even if you don't have anything P2 installed or connected.

As EDIUS doesn't have a scaler built into its native export processes yet, it only shows up in "P2-friendly" project settings, which usually means you want a 1280x1080 project resolution.
