4.5-5 hours on a DL Disk?

Hi guys,

I'm wrapping up a wedding edit that's going to be about 4.5 - 5 hours long. I know that sounds super long, but it was a two day event with 3 different ceremonies! My question is, is it possible to fit this on a dual layer disk without losing a ton of quality?

I'm coming out of FCP 6. Usually I just burn using a template in iDVD, but I could go through DVD Studio Pro if that gives me more options.

Thanks!

4.5 - 5 hrs. Wow. How can it take 5 hours to tell a story? Cecil B DeMille's - The Ten Commandments was a little over 3.5 hours. This must have been one heck of a wedding.

Theorythically 300 min can be fit onto a DL DVD, but yes you would be loosing 'a ton of quality'.
Average video bitrate compression you should be using is around 3.5 Mbps (if you are using Compressor) (And audio should be max. 128 kbps bitrate)
This is way below quality than the accepted minimum quality in compression bitrate: Magic number is 5 Mbps minimum.
My suggestion is to divide it into 2 discs if you are using DL discs, or better divide into 3 disc and use regular DVDs, which is more compatible than DL discs.
90 min video for a single layer DVD can be easily compressed with higher bitrates such as 6.3 Mbps. Now it is high quality.

Yes it was, 3 hours in ceremonies alone. I don't edit anything out of ceremonies, so those 3 hours are all in there. If you've ever been to a Hindu wedding you would understand how much is involved over the course of two days.

Ctb, it is the accepted norm by the client in this type of weddings to receive multiple DVDs as a finished product.
