Nope.

Closest...well, anything that could do this could never be mentioned with the words "close" and "sub $10k" in the same sentence. I'm pretty sure this falls in closer with $100k.

You can get a dvx with an andromeda modification. Total about $7000. Only problem is you have to record directly to a laptop

No variable frame rates. Now, an HVX with the mod would, but that doesn't exist, and frankly, doesn't really seem worth it.

can u really? I dont mind recording to a computer, has to be mac though

[Dirty_Ass]

HVX shoots 4:4:4?

[monte]

No Nik, no way in hell - 4:2:2 DVCPRO maybe, but hells naw @ the 4:4:4

[Justin_Kirch]

the andromeda would be the best option for sub 10k.....it'll give you the 4:4:4 and you could shoot the 60i mode of the dvx, and slow it down to 40%. It should give you the same effect as variable frame rates, but in HD.

[Cheesesailor77]

andromeda turns dvx into HD?

[monte]

Well - HD = Higher Resolution... so yeah

And ofcourse, better color space (4:4:4) the only problem is that you're tethered to a power source and a laptop among other things... so obv. not for run and gun situations

[scharky]

Andromeda can only shoot 24p due to bandwidth limitations, sorry no variable frame rates, but still 4:4:4 uncompressed, and great latitude to boot.
