$4,000 dollars

I wouldn't feel comfortable shooting skateboarding with an HVX even if I could afford it. Seems like an example of a situation where an HV20 would do almost as well in most situations.

I disagree, a lot of us are very serious about it. Hell I used to have a $7,000 fisheye that I used to have boards whiz past all the time.

Steve my man it's SamS the mod is thinking of getting this setup and i made this thread for him. Chillll haha i'll have the dvx my whole life.

Ah, well let him know... As of right now you're not going to get far with any sort of accessories after a used HVX body... The best bet is sit patiently and wait for spec-comm to get a b-stock body in and normally they throw in a 16gig card....

as far as the fisheye kiss the century xtreme goodbye, even after that price you still need a set of rails... I'd suggest the 16x9 INC fish.

Yes, HDV is HD but only because of the resolution.... in every other aspect it falls short.... so to me I group HDV seperately from Professional (Intra-Frame) Codecs.... and thus HDV (Inter-Frame HD) and HD (Intra-Frame ("True" or "Real") HD).
If you are going to ding HDV for not being intra-frame it's only fair to ding DVCPro HD for being lower resolution (1280x1080 vs 1440x1080 and 960x720 vs 1280x720). Considering intra-frame codecs such as HDV and XDCAM HD get used every day, by professionals, for b'cast and cable TV shows I wouldn't have any worries about using one for skate videos. As another poster said, I'd worry more about the shooter than the format.

This continued mis-characterization of HDV as being "fake" HD pisses me off. It's mentioned over and over that HD is a standard of resolution. It's not the codec, not the color space, not intraframe or long GOP, it's just whether the picture is big enough or not.

That's like saying that a Civic isn't a "real" car because it's engine isn't as good as a Ferrari. Makes no sense. If cool if you don't like HDV as a codec, but don't try to draw generalization about it being "real" or "fake" HD. That has no basis whatsoever.

Excellent description, probably the best I've seen it worded in the least amount of words possible.

However don't be getting "pissed off", life is too short brother.

Right. But its an interweb disease.

Its good to know that the codec has some limitations and all us A1/XLH1 owners are pretty darn good at avoiding them. And this really only to pertains to faster motion with a high res background. Ive always felt Canons iteraton to be fairly robust.

I can tell you right now that MY A1 will shoot a cleaner red light than MY HPX. Doesnt mean my A1 is better, just theres things you have to live with and we happily do. Well I do anyway. I think for the prices I have paid for the cameras I have is incredible when I look at the ROI.

Sorry I drifted off there for a moment.
