3rd part Rendering Engines

I'll see if I can render off something today or tomorrow. If it stands up to images I've seen I'll post what it is. I don't want to promote it publicly if I've been had. :) I'll send a PM Anhar so you can have a look at it anyways if you want.

In the meantime what renderer would someone suggest for C4D?
I think Vray is still in the works?

The C4D renderer is good but if other companies are making dedicated renderers I want to have a look at them and see what the difference is.

Maybe we can develop a list of the good ones for most of the 3D programs.

Vray for C4D is still in the works. There is a huge thread over at CGTalk with details and progress reports from the makers.

I don't know of any other viable solutions for Cinema4D for production. Maxwell and Final Render and more geared/used by the arch/pre-viz community.

Since I started on Maya and learned mental ray quite well, I wish there was direct integration on that front. Mental ray is a great renderer.

Then there's Renderman, which I've always been curious to use, but, again, the switch to C4D changed that.

C4D has Renderman Connection compatability which I guess links it to Renderman or something like that? I'm not quite up on that.
-theres not much on the web about it.

Yeah, I forgot about the unadvertised Production bundle of C4D with the Renderman Connection and Linux version. I was thinking more along the lines of something like the Renderman for Maya plug-in.

I would assume that C4D's user-base doesn't need Renderman, hence why no lower price point option.

No clue. I was just tossing it out there because it's one of the best (and costliest) but the results are amazing...and as stated previously it can interconnect to a lot of software.

Mentalray is also pretty neat.

Yeah, but I think the Renderman Connection is probably more costly than anyone besides a studio can afford. RE: mental ray, I haven't found any connection between it and C4D.

I had a look at Maxwell Render. I got some basics out of the way and
rendered something. Not as good as MR is capable of doing but not bad
for a first go at it. It's good for stills but render times are big.
I like the theory behind the program and if I was doing pro still work
I'd give it a look. Otherwise C4D renderer is fine for me and I'm sure if I pulled out the
GI settings on it and took as long to render a still I'd get similar
results. That goes on my todo list.
Anyhoo here's my C4D+MR sample.

I looked at some previews of Final Render and honestly thought the quality
was well below that of the standard shipped C4D renderer.
Maybe it was the samples.

I still have to look at Vray when it's completed for C4D, Renderman (whenever that happens, HA, that might be a tough one) and would look at mental ray but can't find a link either.
Huh.

Back to C4D now.
