3K is Greater than 4K for the 2016 Olympics

There are some colossal and inexcusable errors in this thread.
Error #1: There is no such thing as a 1080i plasma or LCD.
No manufacturer ever sold one other than ridiculously expensive CRT's.

Error #2: I don't recall any person or group claiming the eye cannot perceive beyond 30fps. The LOWEST generally agreed minimum frame rate is 50p. Some say as high as 120p. The accepted median is 75fps.

Could the person making such outrageous statements provide sources for their egregious claims?

Could you provide sources? ;)

Although, you are right.

Some might mistake the absence of 'strobing' for the meaning of max frame rate the eye can perceive.

btw, why are we discussing 3k? will it be the new 720p?

I have a 120hz monitor, and the difference between 100hz and 120hz is actually noticeable. I can tell which is which, so I think it's safe to say that the human eye can perceive at least 110hz in terms of motion smoothness with content that has no motion blur...

Content with motion blur like normal video is a different question all together...

Yup. 120hz monitores are wayyy smoother in gaming and mouse movements than 60hz versions.

Until pixels are refreshed individually at a random rate there will be complaints. In fact until we have an organic display that functions in a harmonious and biological way with our retina, that does away with pixels and refresh rates all together, there will be complaints. To be honest I'm over the moon with 1080p at any refresh rate up from and including 24p at a decent bitrate. It looks great.
