Soo.. After effects can import 3d objects and use them... 3ds max can make 3d objects... how come I cant get my 3d objects from 3ds max into after effects?

(I've been using after effects for 2 years, 3ds max for 2 hours... (1.3 of that spent futily googling 'import 3ds max into after effects)

Please, please help me. Thanks so much.

(p.s) I need them to stay 3d objects. I can export movies or pictures of my 3d objects from 3d max, but i need to be able to do camera moves in after effects with them and track them into footage, ect.

I hate to tell you this but that is not how it works. The only 3d objects After Effects supports is Photoshop 3D files. You can kind of trick it by importing your 3D object into Photoshop then saving it as a Photoshop 3D file. I don't think your textures will come over though. Plus there are a few more quirks going that route once you get inside of after effects. It would be a lot easier if you export your camera data out of max into after effects.

Thanks to you both. I have managed to get it into Photoshop and then into After effects. This seems to work with the elements that I need for the time being. When things get more complicated, I'll give the $250 plugin a look. Nothing makes me happier than adding $250 to the price of a couple $3k programs.... =/

That's why I use C4D, simple & solid integration between it and AE. Bring over cameras, lights, 3D position of objects with the push of a button and a compositing tags. Though, being out only $250 is pretty good, it could be far worse in terms of extra software to support your main tools, depending on your needs.
