I saw a guy working on something like this, but he was using two of the same cameras place with-in eye distance.

I don't know, maybe a new project?

How would you filter two streams of video to do that? If you used two camera next to each other? That is crazy cool. I have to do it.

Those are two different approaches to the same effect, the first uses a mirror and an LCD shutter to flicker between two different perspectives, synced with the cameras interlace. Ingenious design. To view it you have to wear LCD goggles that flicker between each eye for each interlace field.

The other setup is two camera synced and then the signal is MUXed together. Technicly much more complicated. Again you have to wear the goggles to view.

I'd buy the first system, but... it only fits on smaller cameras, I think 58mm is max, plus it won't work in 24p, it has to have interlace. Also, resolution is halved as it is only using one field for each eye. I'm also not sure how these technologies would work with LCD DLP and Plasma displays, as they were designed for the quick refresh of CRT.

I'm hoping the same company will come out with a version that will work with 1080i, and be a little larger. That would be nice...

Okay that's a waste of time and money. There is a simple plugin effect for After Effects that will turn your footage into 3-d (about 5 different types I believe)

the AE plugin result isn't like 2 cameras with different perspectives, it is just a poor simulation.

Hey this is the DIY thread so why not do just that. Check out these plans from instructables.com http://www.instructables.com/id/EPTUHNQHR2EP287AG7/ You should be able to make a relatively inexpensive mount to make the kind of images that really stand out. I've done a few 3-d shoots using a mount I made for two DVXs but theere was always problems with the angles and getting the colors right in post. This method seems to have some real advantages and it only requires one camera.

I've seen both, and believe me the AE looks nothing like the two camera's. Now two DVX's, I would really like to see some footage. The reason I bought this 3D stuff up is, one of my friends is touring through Osaka, Japan and he just told me they saw a 3D projection television. Anyone know of these?

Yes, 3D TV without special glasses. There is a internal lens in front of the image changing the rays to left and right eyes, for production I understand that image lines are divided for each eye, maybe in vertical.

Back to the systems avaiable, all 3D that uses color separation (blue/red) is inferior to polarized glasses, which all big theme parks use.

They had a true 3d monitor for sale at Siggraph last year... amazing visual power.

It was selling for around $20k, so you'll have to wait a while to afford it.

Someone was telling me the other day about using two cameras with Polorization Lenses. One set vertically and the other horizontally. Then when you mess the two together and the proper viewing glasses, will give you a 3 D effect. Haven't tried it yet, but sound pretty simple

No it would be about the same thing actually. I doubt anybody here is going to sync up two projectors to show real 3d.
