3D Offset for 2D Image

I'm trying to animate a logo with lots of objects that I want to fly out through. Basically I want to place them in 3D space such that they're oriented properly at one keyframed camera point. However, I don't want to hassle with the scaling and positioning after adjusting the Z position. I found a plugin from Zaxwerks called Z-Distribution, but I don't want to pay for this one time thing. Anyone have any suggestions?

Josh,

This is getting closer, but it doesn't keep the layers distributed evenly. Check out the Zaxwerks page. Z-Distribution is what I'm talking. http://www.zaxwerks.com/layertools/details.shtml
