3D After Effects - Pong?

You mean in 3d?
It involves camera tracking, 3d animation, compositing etc etc. Can you be more specific what part you want to recreate?

What I really want to achieve is the 3D rectangle "Pong". I am doing a rip off this ad for a prep rally at school for tennis.

Then once I have this 3D rectangle I guess it's just a case of importing it and then keyframing it to move left or right across my pre-shot footage.

So basically, how would have they made the 3D rectangle?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

First of all, After Effects doesn't import 3D objects. You'd have to use a 3rd party plug-in, specifically Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator or ProAnimator.

They would have made the 3D rectangle in a 3D app. The footage would have been tracked using a 3D tracker and that camera data would be sent to the 3D app.

You can construct a basic 3D solid out of 2D solids in AE, though.

Sounds like you are getting in pretty close to over your head. My guess is that you'll have to greatly simplify this: lock down the camera so you won't have to motion track, stick with a 2D solid, convey the nature of the match with careful editing, rather than the complicated effects that are going to be hard to achieve.

I took some advice from another forum and used the schools cinema 4D... it seems to be doing the job at the moment... can't really tell until I get my raw footage.

Hopefully it all turns out! I'll be sure to show you the finished result!

Thanks for the help! S
