360 Rolling camera mount. PROTOTYPE give it a look

I've been working on a new music video where my director wanted to see if we could get some sort of spinning shot, where the camera stayed well centered. I didn't think it would be a problem for our current line of hi def cameras as they are so light.

This is only a prototype, and the piece was assembled an hour before the shoot as the mount was designed via email. Thank you UPS next day 10am guarantee delivery. I have many ideas on how to make this better. The music video should be out in a few weeks

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Really interesting. yeah the idea for the final rig is to be motorized. The reason why this one worked perfectly for our video was because in the music video the artist was to come up to the spinning camera and stop it where it jerks, and then after doing the verse in the camera holding it, he would grab it and spin it again, fast. How did yours come out? seems like a really good smooth slow manual alternative.

It was the first shot of the film. Focus was an issue since we were shooting on a S35mm sized sensor wide open on a F/1.4!!! Otherwise it went really well. Looking back, a wireless FF would have been the key, as the focus puller had difficulty pulling focus on a camera that is rotating 180* around! hahaha, difficult indeed.

I've uploaded the first couple of minutes and you can see the shot below:

That was great! I've always longed to see more of that film!
On topic: That spinning rig looked like it worked out flawlessly minus what you said about the focus. Which would be an easily solved problem.

Really smooth! nice rig, I love it.
I'll let you know how my finalized rig comes out, i'm going to try out the whole motor thing, but we'll see...

That was excellent, nice work on Reflection. And to the OP, that looks great! I've been contemplating building one for awhile now, but these designs really make it look easier than I thought. Originally, I was going to get this:

And build a mount so I could mount the camera sideways for when I wanted to do this sort of shot. I am a huge Kessler fan, so I might do it eventually for a motorized solution, but yeah, great stuff.

(I wish my lego mindstorm stuff was smoother or I'd use that to control a camera interface)

Everything I have seen from the kessler stuff is great. They sponsored us for a project we are working on and I also ended up buying a bunch of stuff as well and EVERY bit of it is top-notch. If also seen what people have done with their motorized sliders and the moving heads, it is crazy! I really need to start making crazy expendable money on my projects so I can get two heads and do some CRAZY 4 axis movements (I'd connect the two with a long bar) since you can record positions with the Oracle controller and play them back.

Definitely CANNOT say enough nice things about them.

This is great to see! The cirque du soleil used a shot like this in a german wheel act and I've been fascinated with it ever since. Rolling camera on tracks to follow this moving thing and spin alongside. Just fascinating!
