35mm vs. s16mm vs dvx100e

Hello everyone!

I don´t know if there is somewhere around in the web where we can have a glimpse about having the same iamges recorded in film and with the dvx100.

Some time ago i posted the same image from a shortfilm recorded with the dvx and in super 16 mm film, and we could see some important issues.

Now i am filming in 35mm and anamorphic lenses but i was thinking on shooting the same image with the dvx100E just to see the difference.
Besides, the film footage will be scanned at 2k (or even more) and i will have in mi HD, so i can have the best quality as possible.

So i was wondering, anyone has seen this comparison before in the web?

If you're talking about resolution - and DVX versus film resolution has been threaded to death - then many would say that you should consider film to resolve at +/- 100 (relative) lines per millimeter.  The DVX resolves at roughly 1/4 - 1/8 the relative lines of a 35mm frame, vertically measured, dependent on contrast ratio measurement to l.p.m.

An NLE-based comparison is effectively useless - while your computer can easily exhibit an uncompressed DVX file, the same monitor cannot display an uncompressed 2k transfer comp. from a 35mm negative source.  What you will be watching is a heavily compressed 35mm image, and a virtually uncompressed NTSC / DV image side by side.

There is a great article about the DVX vs 16mm vs 35mm in American Cinematographer April 2003 issue.  Here is a link to the grabs from the article, but I think you have to find that issue for the actual article....But this should give you a good idea!!
