35mm Problems (Zoom/MF)

I just bought a 35mm adapter and they suggest using the MF20 and Z73. Whenever my zoom ring gets to 73, it won't let me focus down to twenty. Please help me people, my adapter's just sitting there and I don't know what to do.

Don't know which adapter you've got. I'm wondering if the recommended zoom and focus settings might be for a different camera. Maybe try zoom 87 and see where AF takes you.

In any case, the general idea is to focus on the screen in the adapter. You might get decent results without following their recommendation exactly. The idea is to zoom in far enough to get past anything that might be obstructing the image or casting a shadow on the image. Then focus on the screen.

If the screen has some grain to it, you can start with AF to get in the ballpark, and then switch to MF to fine tune it. You might find it handy to remove the 35mm lens and point the camera/adapter at something pretty bright to allow you so see the obstructions/shadows/grain.

If you can't get a focus at any zoom, then it might mean the distance between the adapter and the camera is wrong, or the relay lens (the magnifying lens that lets you focus on the screen) might not be positioned correctly with respect to the camera lens or the adapter elements.

35mm adapters can be really sensitive to alignment. And having something off even a tiny bit can mess with the image.

Hope that is of some use.

It sounds like you may have a DVX100 no "A"? Unfortunatly, the old 100 didn't have the minimum focus distance that the "A" and "B" models have. You basically have two options,

1. Get a more powerful achromatic adapter
2. find a different adapter

Which adapter do you have by the way?

I was just informed of the fu*$%ng horrible news that my DVX-100 can't focus in that close. A Pro35. Could you show me what you mean by a more powerful achromatic adapter? I am using a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 BTW.

Set the focus to the farthest in the lens...try zooming less and now manually focus in the camera. My zoom setting is 69 and focus is MF 06...And one more thing...the Focus range varies with lens...dunno why...!
