35mm look at 16mm price

My K3 has obscene amounts of gate weave. Hope yours doesn't. Bought it new, it has always been that way.

Does your thumb get as sore as mine when I shoot more than about 2-3 loads of film? That winder mechanism is stiff!

I was just researching this. I'm the DP on a short film project coming up where I'm going to use a SR3/LEX combo. We're thinking hand held, one shot, remote follow focus, and a lot of luck.

I can't wait to see your footage.

Funny enough, I did the same thing with my Beaulieu 4008 ZM 2 Super8 camera some time ago. Shoot Kodak Vision2 500T and 200T stock.

Film should be back from the lab soon.

Also looking forward to seeing some grabs.
Hope it turned out for you, and even if not ideal thanks for stepping up and risking some emulsion to try this desire :)
How was the vignetting... what slr lenses you shoot with, just the 50mm 1.4?

Fun to idea to try but here are some reasons why this might be a "bad" idea:

1. You are loosing lots of sharpness
2. You are losing a few stops
3. 16mm has much more noticeable grain then 35mm (on the faster stocks especially)
4. You can shoot 35mm with a Russian 35mm camera for not much more money (short-ends + 2-perf maybe?)
5. You can shoot at wide apertures on 16mm film and get a short dof comparable to 35mm but still be sharp
6. The viewfinder will get darker
7. A light weight 16mm camera is now heavy
8. Dof adapters need babysitting

But with that said, I am interested to see the results- a lot of people have talked about this but I dont know of any who have tried it. Thanks for being the guinea pig!

I shoot 16mm on my Bolex with a Nikon lens using a 45$ adapter. Is there that big a difference? I have a Letus for my DVX 100a, and the footage I shoot there looks as good or better, at least in my experience.

I shoot 16mm on my Bolex with a Nikon lens using a 45$ adapter.

Is this using an adapter that has a focussing screen larger than a 16mm gate, ie: 35mm?
Or just a lens mount adapter that connects the lens directly to the film gate?

If it's a 35mm adapter, could you please post some footage/grabs?

hey there, looking forward to seeing some footage.
I kinda had the same idea, but attached my sgpro to my super8 camera, see footage here.

I'd be great to compare and see the difference. I like the whole new look of it.

Best,
Max.
