35mm alternative for GG

I was curious if anyone has tried this for a GG alternative. I tried searching the forums but I could not find anything. Sorry if this has been answered.

I am researching materials and designs to create my own 35mm adapter. I found a possible alternative to GG and would like to see if anyone else has tried this or if someone could state if it is even possible.

SEMI-TRANSPARENT FROSTED GLASS SPRAY PAINT.

Is this a possible alternative. I am thinking that you could take a UV Filter and spray on the FROSTED GLASS?

In answer to your question, I think someone has tried this before and the diffusion wasn't good enough. I'll try looking around for the thread.

Thank you. I thought I might give it a try due to the affordability and simple nature of it. But if it has not worked in the past I don't see why it would work now. If you could find a link that would be awesome though. I am still trying to find some other possible variations for a GG.
 
Doesn't work -- grain is too large by a factor of 20 or so. It's the same with acid etched glass, as well.
 
When using grit to grind your own ground glass it is even difficult to make it smooth enough to avoid the grain.....bklyndy is right.....it just won't work unless you like static grain.

What about Dragon Skin? You can get trial size at smooth-on.com
Don't ask me details about the product though, I have never used this particular one so I can't say much about it, just sounds right. I would simply try dipping a uv filter into the coumpound for a nice onion skin film. There are white pigments if its not opaque enough. Here are the product details.

Dragon Skin and Dragon Skin Q are high performance platinum cure silicone rubbers that can be mixed 1A:1B by weight or volume and cures at room temperature with no shrinkage to a Shore 10A. Cured Dragon Skintm is very soft, very strong and very “stretchy”. It will stretch many times its original size without tearing and will rebound to its original form without distortion. Dragon Skin is suitable for many special effects applications, especially animatronics where repetitive motion is required. It is water white translucent and will accept pigments for creating color effects or for creating a paint that can be painted on to an existing Dragon Skintm (or other) silicone surface. Because of the superior physical properties and softness of Dragon Skin, it is also used for orthopedic & cushioning applications.

I put in an email to smooth-on asking for product recomendations, here is what they recomend

On The liquid plastic side there are only the crystal clear plastics you could experiment with the outside finishes perhaps. On the rubber side there are a few: Ecoflex, Dragon Skin, Smooth Sil 920, Sorta Clear 40. Please visit www.smooth-on.com for all kinds of great info & ideas.

frosted glass - it means they are chemically (not mechanically) grinded.
All frosted i've seen are far from good. Too big grain.
