35mm adptor vs 16x manual lens

I've recently been ponding what to purchase next. I like the 16x lens because it is fully manual and it'd be a great tool to have. But lately I've been thinking whether I should get a 35mm adaptor with the ground glass instead. This would be for independent film use and maybe wedding or corporate videos when the bills pile up.

I was wondering what peoples experiences have been using various 35mm adaptors (like the letus which I saw a clip from and it looked awesome) and the 16x lens which would be good but doesn't give me shallower depth of field, but more easily repeatable control. Input would be great (I already own some Nikon F mount lens for my SLR).

You should note that this adapter, like the one Canon sells for EOS lenses simply mounts the lens directly so the depth of field and field of view benefit of the 35mm adapters (which is their sole purpose) is lost.

The use of this type adapter is primarily for long telephoto lenses for sports, nature etc.

Thanks guys. I already own the optex XL to Nikon adaptor. The magnification limits the locations I can use my lenses. But they are great to use when the situation allows it.

I was mainly concerned with getting better DOF control. But at the same time I was wondering which seems like a better investment. The 16x lens would be good for a fully manual lens, but I still have great depth of field because the 1/3 ccds. The quality of the 35adaptors is also a concern. Just wondering if people had experience with the 35adaptors (the more affordable ones) and the XL2.

After reading the adaptor shoot out, I think I'll be waiting for the updates and other models to come out before I make up my mind.

Thanks again.

I own a 16X manual, and I find it to be pretty flexible granted you slap a CENTURY OPTICS wide angle on the end. You'll have to do a bit of grinding to make it fit no biggie though it's just aluminum.

I think I will attempt to build a static adaptor, following the video tutorial in the DIY forum, to hold me over, until these new 'better' adaptors are ready for sale. And if it doesn't work out, hopefully get my hands on the 16X lens and save up and wait for one of the adaptors.

Thanks again.
