Hey guys,

I just got the sekonic L-398 light meter and Im wondering what setting ASA I should use. I know the DVX alone is 320 but what about the addition on my SGpro and lense?

thanks

Keep in mind that video ibn general is not as linear as film and that exposure will vary depending on your gamma, black levels and whetehr it is a bright or dark scene. Its great to meter for ball park though and especially to set lights.

Trying to use a light meter with a video camera is largely an exercise in frustration at best, and imprecision at worst.

The proper tool for a video camera is a waveform monitor, not a light meter.

Although I agree with you Barry for the proper tool, it may come down to budget and then the answer could be; "which one of the two is cheaper to get on the set".
So... if you have a $10 (or more) light meter, try and set up the light levels of the scene as your vision serves the story best (and works best within the dinamic range of your camcorder) My2c.

yeah. I only had about 50-70 bucks to spend. Others have said it helped them so hopefuly I will be one of them.

I use a light meter to just to setup lights properly then I look for zebras in my camcorder to look for washed out areas after the lighting is setup. I try to keep in within range of my lens settings to get good exposure otherwise i will see a lot of grain if it is too dark. It is a good tool if it is used properly.
