hello. i have decided that i want to get a 35mm. either make a static myself or buy one. i have been researching a lot but i cant decide what to do:(
i have some questions that might help me make decisions if answered:

- i was thinking static was the way to go since i am using my microphone mounted on the camera mostly. so then i dont have to worry about noise. however is this really a problem? i dont know how loud the noise is from the spinning or rotating adapters??

- can the battery be turned off on the spinning and rotating adapters (letus, sgpro, brevis) and then be used as a static adapter?

- mostly i am going run and gun with my xha1 with mic mounted on cam. i use tripod, but will be doing lot of handheld too. basically i am dealing with a lot of compromises, i know. anyway, any recommandations on which 35mm adapter to buy, if i am going to buy one and not make it myself?

basically the only thing i know for sure, is that i want one now!

thanks

- not a problem
- bad idea
- I'd go brevis unflipped for the weight. can't speak for the G35, but it wold be another good option.

I decided for financial reasons to build my own. And let me tell you, it's a lot of work. I started over a month ago and I'm still not done. Shipping times, broken parts, custom gg, step up/down rings, scratched lenses, etc. BUT....The results have been pretty good. I'm using the DVX100, so it wasn't necessary to use a spinning/vibrating adapter. You'll need one with that canon.

If you have the money = buy a professionally made one, and kiss goodbye at least $1000
If you don't have the money = make your own, and just suffer thru

1) Read enough and you will find that mounting the microphone on camera is not a good idea. Unless you have no other option get it off the camera...

2) You can switch most adapters off - but they often do not look good when off. But if you follow 1 above then having them on is no problem

3) As mentioned above - go for a Brevis. I see a few in the second hand section at the moment - so you do not have to pay full price. (Get a REV2 and you can upgrade it to all the latest bits in the future)

thanks for the responses. i am thinking to go for the letus extreme now. because it has flip too.
as i said; it is not an option for me to mount the microphone on another place than the camera. the project i am working on is just that way; i have to use the mic on-cam. and as i said i have some compromises... so that said...
- will it be totally useless with the letus noise and mic nearby? i really dont know how much noise we are talking about. does anyone know?
- and will the letus be totally useless if i decide to turn it off in order to record sounds from the mic?

i will check out the brevis in more detail as well, thanks...

We decided to go with the Letus Ultimate for two reasons:

1) The Biggest Reason: You can shoot with the 35mm lens at more than f5.6.
2) As a result of #1, you can leave the adapter on the camera all the time so that the look of your footage doesn't have to change when you have to shoot without the adapter (like bright outdoors shoots)

We haven't bought it yet though. Maybe in the next couple of weeks.

teupaksa , why can't you use a lav for your project? Also, I would like to see some footage once you have some, because I guess I never really put the mic on the camera, but now that I think about it, I kind of wish I had the option. I have an SGpro on the way, I am pretty stoked.
