with my 35mm adapter i loose my zoom function on the canon xh-a1. im currently using nikon ai-s primes but was wondering if its possible to get the zoom back using an slr lense with zoom controls. Does adding these lenses give good results?

thanks,
Chris

Yes you can use Nikon zoom lenses, try to get those with a fixed F stop, these are much more expensive but are just as good as a set of nikon prime lenses...

In this video I used a Nikon zoom lens (80-200 f2.8)

aww , Admir , GOD bless you my friend ,

exactly what im looking for. your footage is beautiful. the ability to zoom in or out alittle is awsome. I love how it still stays sharp. when your zooming do you have to compensate using the focus to stay focused or does that just work automatically.

thanks ,
Chris

Glad I could help you!

This zoom that I used for this shot stayed all the way focused. So it worked just like my ordinary lens on the camera. Zoom in, set the focus and then zoom out to whatever you want =).

I also have an old Osawa zoom lens (cheap lens with variable F stop), and this one does not stay in focus when you zoom out or in, you need to compensate while zooming. It is almost impossible in other words =P.

Your best bet is to get a parfocal zoom lens (image stays in focus while zooming), with a dedicated zoom ring.
It would be hard to zoom in while focusing with a push pull zoom lens.
