35mm adapter help?

I am looking to buy a 35mm adapter. I have been looking at the Letus Extreme but I have some questions that I would like to ask. I own a Canon XH A1 and a 50mm Pentax Lens.

When buying the adapter, should I get the M42 Screw Mount or the Pentax one. What lenses will fit the M42 mount?

Also should I get the whole rod and bracket system? Do I need it to film with it? I was thinking of getting just the bracket because the site is showing it comes with it for a small price and the entire support system is a couple hundred.

Are there any other film adapaters that are good and at a good price that I should look at? That will fit the Canon XH A1.

I mainly just want to know more information about the lens mounts and which to get. I will plan on getting some more lenses once I get some money but for now all I have is a 50mm lens that came with my Asahi Pentax K1000.

Thanks! :)

First I would read through the 35mm page. That way you can familiarize yourself with the different kinds of 35mm adapters and go off what other people have experienced.

So, you have a few different companies that make good 35mm. The most known, imo, are Letus, RedRock, Shoot35, Cinemek and Brevis. You can go to each of their websites and view videos shot with the adapters. Also, you can go to websites like vimeo.com and watch videos by people like us.

But really, you should just research and read up on the pages, and yes, the majority of the adapters will work with the Canon A1, its based on thread size, yours being 72mm, I think.

you do need rails, you dont want to destroy your camera with the weight all on the front threads.

I wouldn't get a 35mm adapter with a native M42 mount on the front, as this will lock you into that mount.

I myself have an adapter with an EF mount, and use EF to M42 adapters to use M42 lenses....it works well with my M42's, and I still have the option of using EF lenses.
