35 Macro and Holder Ring Question.

So I've finally decided to make an adapter.
I have a question everyone has theirs set up for a dvx which the lense mm is like 72 and I was looking at this thread:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=45972
which has a 72mm cokin holder ring in which I have vx and my vx is 58mm and my question is the 72mm cokin holder ring holds the 58mm +10 macro when my lense is 58mm. So do I still need the holder ring? and If I do it would 58mm but would the macro still be 58?
and I was also looking at this tutorial:
http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/dof/index2.htm
but its not very explanative like on the size and what kind of macro they use.
please help. . im confused on what sizes things need to be.

Well, with the first question about the 72mm cokin holder ring. While the 58mm macro is 58mm, it's also about an inch or so inside the tube, so you can't use that to hook it to the lens. What you'd probably need to do is use the 72mm ring (because it is big enough to fit around the pipe) and then use a step up ring to get from your 58mm threads to the 72mm holder ring. Does that make sense?

On the DOF machine tutorial it is rather vague. It's been a while since I read over it, and I think it's basically a matter of experimentation to find the right sizes and power of macro. Maybe someone else has built that kind and can post something more helpful.

Hmm... so what your saying is you stock lens is 58mm? if so you won't need the step-ring. Run the 58mm +10 macros right off the hood of that sucker then finish your setup. There seems to be quite a few different methods going round. I searched through the 20+ pages alone here and was surprised with the various methods.
Best of luck!

yea I was trying to say since my lense on my camera is 58mm that I wouldnt need the step up ring and was curious that i could just run the macro on to that and finish the rest of the adapter from that.
thanks.
