30P on a 24P timeline, jerky

In CS5 I have a project that is almost entirely in 24P and I'm editing it on a 24P timeline, but I have one ascending jib type shot that was shot 30P (29.97). It plays jerky on the timeline. What can be done in order to use that footage with the other?

30p will never convert well to 24p when played back at real time, and the more motion it has, the more jerky it will be if you try to convert or resample it as 24p.

The only way to make them play nice with each other is to edit and render in 60p or 60i. 60p is better. Both 24p and 30p will retain their looks.

The other option is to use the 30p as slo-mo in your 24p sequence, if it works like that. You do it by disabling frame blending and slowing the 30p footage playback to 80%.

Or, if it's just a small amount of footage, you could decide if you live with the jerkiness at 24p.

Im sorry to ask more. I'm not quite sure how to do the 30p slomo way.
i have a 24p timeline sequence with the 30p clips also on it and their speed is set to 80%. I right clicked on the clip and see that frame blend is not selected. It still plays jerky. Then I tried frame blend just to see and it smoothed a bit but with a blurry blending look.
is there anything else I need to do? I let premiere interpret the 30 p clips by default at 29.97 and later tried interpreting at 24.976 just to see. Maybe I misunderstood and 30p just won't play friendly with 24p even at 80%.

On the other (60p) idea:
i made a 60p sequence and pasted my clips from the 24 p sequence to it. It seems to play back alright. So to export the project for a web video, does it need to be exported at 60fps for all the footage to play right?

Yes, it needs to be exported at 60.

How are you going to deliver the web video?

Web hosting services like YouTube and Vimeo have a max frame rate of 30p, so the 60p will be converted to 30p. But they'll also host 24p, so if you're going to one of those, then you might as well just live with the 30p not being perfect and edit and export as 24p, as that what most of your footage is. If you try to do everything as 30p, all or most of the 24p footage will end up being jerky, too. It's not ideal, but if 60p isn't an option for you, then it's something you'll have to live with.

If you're making it downloadable, then you can export at 60p.

30p SHOULD play smoothly (though a little slowed down) in a 24p sequence at 80% playback. Try exporting a portion of your sequence at 24p, including the 30p footage, and see what it looks like. Could just be a timeline playback issue.

Go to the clip in the bin and right-click "interpret footage" and manually override it's timebase to 23.976. It will be 20% longer and play back frame for frame in your 24p sequence.

Thank you for answering my question without even asking it concerning 60P and web :)

Yes! I did what you guys said and it works surprisingly well :) I interpreted the 30P clips to 23.976 (23.98) and it automatically made them 20% slower on my 24fps sequence. Since most of the footage is 24 fps I exported a 24 fps video and it looks good.
This is great to know and will help me in the future. Thank you!
