30p in VV

Re: 30p in VV

So if I do that then VV will automaticaaly do what to 60i footage?

Im looking at shooting project mostly in 30p and then getting a fair amount of 60i for slow mo, FX and so on.

futher more, if you could please humor me...

Regarding Frame Rate xl2 manual says:

60i= Records 60 fps interlaced

30p= Records 30 fps progressive and outputs signals converted to 60 fps interlaced

I dont understand the difference. is the 30p actually 60i when brought into computer?

Re: 30p in VV

Everything from a DVX or XL2 will be 60i when brought onto the computer, those are just the recording specs for NTSC DV. It is how the image is captured and then interpreted where the magic happens. 30p is basically exactly the same as 60i except for one main difference, both fields in 30p are captured at exactly the same time, whereas, in 60i one field is captured before the other. Lets say you are shooting in 30p, then each time the CCD is exposed, whether it be 1/30th of a second or 1/120th of a second both fileds are captured at the same time, however they are written as they would be 60i, ie. one field then the other. You then capture this to your computer and throw it in your NLE where you follow the steps that Barry has listed to tell your computer to display both the even and odd field of your 60i (recorded to tape) footage, where the 30p footage will be reconstructed. If you were to tell, it to do the same with 60i footage (shot and recorded) then both fields would be show at the same time, however, they would not match up exactly displaying a "combing" effect on progressive scan televisions or monitors. I hope this helps.

Re: 30p in VV

Exceelant explanation, thanks

I get a little foggy and brain dead sometimes after surfing too long.

Based on what you said, mixing 30p and 60i in a 29.97 project would be no problem except the 60i might exhibit combing on progressive moniotrs?
