30p For DVD or Blu ray?

I deliver the majority of weddings on DVD, with some being Blu ray.

I have been shooting 720 /60p. I would like to start shooting the ceremony at 1080 /30p for the reason of using a slower shutter for gaining more light during dark weddings and also extra zoom gained in reframing on a 720 timeline. My hmc150s only have 13X zoom which sometimes isn't enough.
Obviously 1080 60p would be great but my cameras won't do it.
I dont want to shoot interlaced and not sure how well 24p will work out due to jitters.

How nicely does 30p footage work when going to DVD and Blu ray?
I know BD doesn't support it directly.
I use mostly CS5 on windows.

You are correct in that you cannot make a 1080p30 Blu-ray disk. You can't even make it 720p30. That format doesn't exist in the specification either. It works for DVD, but it's kind of a cheat (the 30p will be presented as 60i unless the player supports the progressive signal embedded in the interlaced fields).

Since you're basically getting 60i discs with 24p anyway (pulldown has to be removed by the player and true 24fps support has to be in the TV itself, so your clients viewing their discs in anything slower than 60p/60i is heavily dependent on the "gear" they own), I would say to go for it.

Thanks, guys. Obviously you know a lot more about this than I.
I don't think I understand. So, shooting 30p if it's destined for DVD is fine?
I'm fine with the 60i look on DVD, I mean wverything on DVD is 60i anyway, unless it's 24p.
But how about if the intended output is Blu ray?
Can 30p footage output friendly enough Without great hassle or problems?

Would I edit on a 30p timeline and then export to 60i or what would be the best procedure?
Or is 30p ok for DVD but for Blu ray you have to shoot either 24p, 60i or 60p?

I don't think you'll have a terrible issue with 30p to Blu-ray, even though it will end up as 60i in the end. But if slower shutter speeds are your goal, perhaps 24p is better suited?

If you export 30p as 60i or 60p, it'll still LOOK like 30p. It won't look "live" like 60i/60p.
