30-second commercial and Quick Time

Hello Everyone,

I'd like to do a 30-second commercial for a client and it's just for the purpose of the client emailing it to his customers. I'm using Final Cut. Do I have to export it to Quick Time conversion? Is that going to work? Or do I need to do something else? The client has a PC. Is that going to work?

Thanks so much.

I would recommend exporting it as quicktime 320x240 with H.264 or mp4 codecs. If your client is going to be e-mailing the actual video file to customers, than try to adjust the bitrate to keep the file size under 10MB. Otherwise tweak the bitrate for quality and then host the video on youtube, google video, or another video sharing site of your choice.

Oh and as long as PC viewers have quicktime installed, the should be able to view the video just fine. However, thats one reason video sharing sites have become so popular is because as long as you have flash installed in your browser it doesn't matter what platform or software you or your clients are running.

Ive been doing similar things using the Microsoft WMV codec. Out of all the crap that microsoft churns out, the WMV codec is actually pretty good. Keeps good quality but very small file sizes, and everyone can play it.

You need the Flip4Mac WMV studio plugin to export as wmv.

h264 blows wmv out of the water in terms of quality v filesize, although more people are able to play wmv than h264 .mov

Generally, I would export the file as an uncompressed quicktime file, then put it in to compressor and export it a few times with different bitrates. you can have it do a few different compression styles at once and then pick the best.
