30 Days of Night Comic Book Movie.

Hey, anyone looking forward to this getting under the lens? If you haven't read the comic I recommend that you pick it up.

It centers around Barrow, Alaska. And during the winter there is like 30 days where the sun doesn't come up (I don't know if this is true or not) but a bunch of vampires go there to terrorize the town. I liked the book, and can't wait to see how it'll translate to the screen.

Plus I'd be cool to see if they actually filmed this up here in Alaska. But more than likely won't happen because of budget reasons.

Yeah, it'll probably be shot in Vancouver or Toronto. Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures is doing this, whenever they get off their asses and get it going.

This is going to be killer. Heard about this last summer but I thought they were already in production? A recent SCIFI article (Oct 2004) says that the script is being kinked and Sony is chipping in for a $70M budget; no matter; looks fun.

I can't imagine it costing a terrible amount, the scope is fairly limited. But I bet raimi and friends could find ways to spend money. I know I could.

I heard about this a while back. I loved the comics, it should be awesome. Funny coincidence; BEn Templeton (the guy who illustrated the comics) has worked for Raimi in the past, I believe as a storyboard artist.

dam it all! i wanted to make a movie adaptation of that book/comic. a cool ass hell vampire story. oh well. i'll have to settle for watching it.
i wonder if anyone is adapting I am legend, another cool vampire story that no one's ever heard about.

Sounds like a nice plot. I think Dave attel went to a part of alaska in one episode of insomniac. It was like 2pm and it was pitch black.

vampires scare me. Vampires and the candyman...

........something about will smith doing it

Dude, I've never seen it pitch black at 2pm. At 4pm? yes. But 2? no way.

Of course I hear its worse the further north you get and I'm smack in the middle.

Ok, saw it last night.... And while it failed to deliver on so many levels. It had a few very cool scenes that made it at least worth a watch... Although I wish I had waited for the video release.

Yeah, I saw this over the weekend, don't know what happened, it should of been alot better, it had potential, never read the comic books, so don't know how true to the comic it was, but... the action was pretty good, it just lacked story development and so on.

Horror films can sometimes be good when it's just gore, but what makes them great is somewhere in there there's a story, 30 days had no story.

2 out of 4 stars.

Well put!

I actually enjoyed the hell out of this movie, the premise was excellent and I thought the pacing was just about right. I felt the first act was the strongest, the layering of isolation and dread was slow and sinister before all hell broke loose.

Does anyone know if this was actually shot (in whole or part) on location in Barrow? If not their art direction was pretty damn good, I've been to Barrow a few times (through the Coast Guard) and it looked on film just about how I remembered it.

I loved it

This was a horror film after my own heart

It had a nice balance of gore, some nice scares, action and suspense. And, I cared about the characters. I really was surprised at how much I enjoyed this.

I've had the comic (GN) since I heard it was ebing made; and it was much more gratyfying than that overhyped rag

It was brutal when they attacked; no mercy. The film pulled zero punches with the gore and assualtive tactics. The suspense was there; whether when a townsperson was hiding under a building, or they were stuck in an attic.

THe little girl vamp was creepy. Much more cooler than the DAWN 04 little girl and that scene was gnarly.

This is my idea of a good horror film. I loved the look of the film; they easily could havd gone with your typical HMI BLUE snow look, and instead kept the palette simple.

I was surprised at the amount of gore; especially with the beheadings.

Josh Harnett was believable and showed some nice range; the director seemed to really get some nice things out of him.

The vamps were EXACTLY like my idea of a vampire should be (Sans the talking). Feral creatures, vicious, brutal.

The lead vamp and lead girl vamp were creepy; I was engaged at the leaders portrayal; he seemed more curious and in awe of the humans than expected.

They easily could have screwed this film up, and I think they totally got it right.

Awesome film and a rare Horror film that stands out. Much cooler than the SAW and HOSTEL crap we've been seeing.

I didnt like it. I'm getting tired of these modern horror films with thier every ten minute "scares" where they turn the volume up really loud and have a crash or something. These scares dont take any skill as a filmmaker to achieve. It could basically be a blank screen with random insanely loud noises out of nowhere and be just as scary......and that requires no visual. It also doesnt require the story to be scary or for you to do any thinking as an audience. These are scares for teenage girls.

I liked the look of the vampires...and I liked the idea of vampires taking out a town during the 30 days of night. Ben Foster did a good job. He conveys alot of creepiness with his eyes. Thats about it.

Spoilers:

I realize they had a time constraint...but it felt like the story skipped ahead too quickly. Every time they show the survivors they seem like they are on the brink of being discovered....and could die at any second. Then a title pops up that informs you 10 or so days have elapsed...and you think "what the hell ...how the **** are they still alive." Not only does it not seem realistic that the survivors are still there....at the end they have a little kid wandering the streets. Based on how evil, cunning, and quick these vampires are....I see no way in hell that a small child could have survived that long.

Alot of the lines were cheesy....especially those involving the love story.

The end...where he decides to inject himself with infected blood didnt seem logical. Was that really the only way to save her? He'd been doing pretty damn good fighting them off until that point....and they'd both done a good job of narrowly escaping. Why at the end is injecting yourself (suicide) suddenly the only way? I guess I can't really blame the movie for that since it was probably in the graphic novel...which I havn't read.

I had no problem with the horror in the film ie. the beheadings and esp the one near the end and the situations surrounding them were extremely well written and executed. But to it's shame I think the rest of the film failed to deliver anything tangible or believable.

Spoilers:

At the end, after he defeats the head vampire in a fast, sadly coreographed fight scene (no oomph) I didn't feel it! Are we supposed to believe that his badass minions are going to think that they have met their match, as they all puss out and walk away?
Ok, I will give you that it was better than any Hostel or Saw crap film; but that is not hard!
And was it just me or did the vampires lose steam after the suv scene and were slow all of the sudden!
Maybe I should see it again before being too harsh on it, but my above observations will probably not change!
I expexted alot more from the master who created Hard Candy!

I believe they went away for 2 reasons.

One, the leader being killed off. That is a time told fable; kill the leader and the rest will fall. If the leader dies, then they are lost. And Josh was a vamp now, so, if Josh can kick this guys ass, what makes you think the other Nancies are going to do. Josh proved to be the strongest of the them all.

Like a Lion King, no other lion is gonna mess with him after he takes out the Big Daddy.

Two, the sun was coming up. They had to bail.

I loved it.

That last beheading was like 'What the f***?'

The film was much darker than I expected; the mans head being put on a pike, the Deputy that shot his wife and two daughters to protect them form the Vamps.

I want a sequel. I cannot believe this film only did 30 Million after opening at Number One with $16,000,000. Yet, SAW IV is stronger at $31 Million. Go figure. People like bland and unoriginal.

What I like about 30 Days is that they brought Vampires back to what they should be; not gothic, martial artists model looking Vampires, but feral creatures that only want to suck blood.

They looked great.

I thought the end fight was real in the sense it was a street brawl. Again, no martial arts or wire flying; just straight up men scrapping in the street.

GO SEE THIS !

++++++++++++SPOILER+++++++++++++++
When Harnett infects himself and then goes out to fight the bad guys, made me laugh uncontrollably and then when he is sitting waiting for the sunrise I started again.
